Should I install Dormer Windows or Velux?

Velux windows won’t alter the exterior of your property at all. Aesthetically they won’t draw any second glances so they will fit right into your property. While you won’t get any second glances from the outside, on the inside you can make Velux windows eye-catching and inspirational – adding to the value and the saleability of your home.

Adding value through design

If head height is tight, then Dormer windows can open up the room and give you essential extra floor space. While not as cheap as Velux and with the potential requirement for planning permission, they can transform the usability of the space and add value to the property in the long term.

A cheap dormer window can be around £5,000 but you can easily go up to £15,000 if you’re looking to create something that’s well designed to suit your property. 

We can all think of some 1980s Dormer disasters. A square box look that doesn’t sit right on the house or the street. Thankfully, Dormer design has come a long way. Adding a Dormer window can add to the value of your home on the inside but also on the outside, giving it some serious kerb appeal.

Dormer windows can be made from a wide variety of materials so can be made to sympathetically fit in with your current house or be designed to deliberately stand out. It can take a little extra thought and additional budget, but it can be a great way to add value through the design.
