Removals Companies
Because of the current system of house purchase in England & Wales removal dates tend to be set at short notice and can be very close to the completion date. As a result of this time restriction it is always advisable to carry out your research and make decisions on which Removals company you are most comfortable with, well in advance of any likely completion date. Always give your remover of choice as much notice as possible when booking their services.
The first decision to be made is whether to employ a removals company in the first place or to hire a van and do it yourself. While the DIY option may appear to be the least expensive solution in monetary terms it is much more time consuming, when time is valuable. It also needs to be remembered that the cost of any damage to furniture, belongings or property will not likely be covered by insurances and could be substantial. It is also unlikely that a removal for a medium to large property would be managed in a single day.
Before the date of removal, the contents of the property will need to be packed into cartons, cases or wardrobe boxes. Cardboard boxes are now more difficult to obtain from local supermarkets due to their recycling policies and often would now need to be bought. Wardrobe boxes, which make the transporting of clothes much easier, would require to be purchased. All packaging should be clearly marked with the room or area they should be taken to in the new property.
Many removals companies are able to supply cardboard boxes, packaging and wardrobe boxes on a loan basis. Some removers will provide a full packing service to their clients, ahead of the removal date. They will provide the boxes and packaging, materials, pack everything for you collecting the boxes and packaging at a later date. This service may not be included in estimated costs, so best to check with the service provider. Some service providers will also disassemble beds, cots, etc and reassemble in the new property.
Your removals company may do a survey of your goods, furniture and furnishings before they give you a cost estimate or they may prefer to estimate on the basis of the number of rooms in the property. Always remember to make the remover aware of garden furniture and tools as well as plant pots and patio shrubs etc.
It is worth remembering that removals companies both national and local, should be fully insured against any accidents which would cause damage to goods or property and injury to people. Customer feedback is also a good measure of the service provided.
