As the days get shorter and the temperature starts to cool, making sure your home is ready for the Winter is essential. Here are the top things to check before the temperature drops:

  1. Get your chimney swept.
  2. Check your roof for any damage, sitting water on flat roofs or loose tiles that may let in water once the rainy days set in.
  3. Get your boiler serviced
  4. Bleed radiators so they work effectively in heating your home.
  5. Clean and store away your garden furniture.
  6. Once the leaves have dropped, clear your gutters and drainage holes. At the same time make sure all pipes are securely fixed to walls.
  7. Clear leaves and debris that has gathered around your external walls to prevent any risk of damp.
  8. Make sure there is at least 150mm clearance between your damp proof course and the ground.
  9. Insulate any external pipes or taps to prevent them freezing and bursting over winter.
  10. As the nights draw in make sure any security lights are working and outbuildings and sheds are locked.
